Beginning in late October 2011, the Commons will be undergoing a HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) renovation project. The project will replace much of the original 1984 cooling and air distribution equipment in the central part of the building.
Some of the air distribution equipment in the Main St. side of the facility installed with the 1993 addition will also be upgraded at this time. Electronic controls in those two parts of the Commons will be upgraded to improve air quality and increase overall energy efficiency. Portions of the work project are already underway, and may cause temporary minor disruptions to air quality.
However, the great majority of work which might cause major air quality disruption is scheduled for the final exam and Winter Recess period. The project is scheduled to be complete by the end of January 2012.
