The Leadership and Service Awards Ceremony takes place on the last Sunday of April each year. Award recipients and their families are invited to attend this very special program and the following awards are presented during the ceremony:

Alumni Association Award

Sponsor: VCU Monroe Park Campus Alumni Association

Description: This award is presented to a Monroe Park Campus senior who has exhibited exemplary characteristics in the areas of scholastics, leadership and service to VCU and the Richmond community.

Recognition: $500 monetary award

Criteria: Students must have a graduation date of December or May of the current academic school year. 2.5 cumulative GPA

Board of Visitors (BOV) Scholarship Award

Sponsor: The VCU Board of Visitors

Description: Presented to an outstanding sophomore, junior or returning senior who has distinguished himself/herself scholastically and provided outstanding leadership and service to the University and the Richmond community.

Recognition: The recipient of this award receives a one-year scholarship in an amount covering in-state tuition and fees to be applied to the next academic year (ex: awarded spring of the 2005-2006 academic year and applied to the 2006-2007 academic year).

Criteria:

  • Undergraduate sophomore, junior, senior or senior status
  • 3.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Available for an interview with the Board of Visitors at the beginning of February

Distinguished Academic Service Award

Sponsor: Individual colleges, schools and departments as determined by the Deans of each.

Description: These awards are presented to outstanding students by their college or school. The recipients have a distinguished record of service in their college or school, performed well scholastically and provided outstanding leadership in student organizations.

Recognition: A recognition plaque or certificate. In some cases, token monetary amounts are provided according to each school.

Criteria: 2.5 cumulative GPA (3.0 cumulative GPA for graduate students)

Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Services Award

Sponsor: Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Services

Description: Presented to students who have provided distinguished service to the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Services and/or the university.

Recognition: $300 book scholarship

Criteria:

  • Sophomore status or greater
  • 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Demonstrated leadership and involvement in the organized student community

Emerging Leader Award

Sponsor: Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Services

Description: Presented to students who have provided distinguished service in their first leadership role(s) at VCU and demonstrated a potential for continued leadership.

Recognition: A recognition certificate.

Criteria: 2.5 cumulative GPA (3.0 cumulative GPA for graduate students)

University Leadership Award

Sponsor: Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Services

Description: Presented to students in leadership roles in student organizations or University committees who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating outstanding leadership ability and commitment to their organizations.

Recognition: A recognition certificate.

Criteria: 2.5 cumulative GPA (3.0 cumulative GPA for graduate students)

University Service Award

Sponsor: Office of Volunteer Services, USC&A, Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Services

Description: Presented to students who have provided outstanding service and commitment to university committees, student organizations and/or the Richmond community.

Recognition: A recognition certificate.

Criteria: 2.5 cumulative GPA (3.0 GPA for graduate students)

Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges

Sponsor: Who's Who Among Student's in America Universities and Colleges

Description: Students selected for Who's Who are among the country's outstanding campus leaders and are selected on the basis of academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and future potential.

Recognition: Honored in the Who's Who Directory. Three randomly selected students from the pool of nominated students from each university will receive scholarships in the amounts of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000.

Criteria:

  • Junior, Senior, or graduate student status
  • Minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA (undergraduate) or 3.5 (graduate)
  • Participate in campus/ community activities

William H. Duvall Award for Student Activities & Involvement

Sponsor: University Student Commons & Activities

Description: Presented to students who have provided exemplary service, beyond normal expectations, in student activities, student groups and/or organizations and are in good academic standing.

Recognition: Winner of this award will receive a $200 book scholarship.

Criteria: 2.5 cumulative GPA (3.0 cumulative GPA for graduate students)
