VCU requires that each fraternity and sorority have a chapter advisor to guide, advise, and support the chapter and its officers and monitor their progress. Chapter advisor expectations include being skilled in organizational and leadership development, and proficient in their inter/national organization's policies and their interpretation. Chapter advisors devote significant amount of time to the chapter, and it is through committed alumni and alumnae support that chapters achieve their greatest success.
In addition, many national and international fraternities and sororities require that a corporation board be formed for each collegiate chapter. The purpose of a corporation board is for matters relating to the personal and real property of the chapter, the corporation serves as the legal entity. A basic characteristic of a corporation is that it provides continuity as its existence continues even though the persons managing it may change from time to time.
